The PMP score report contains no number at all. You get a pass or fail, plus a performance rating in each exam domain.
Here’s how to read it—and what target to train toward when there’s no cutoff to chase.
What the report shows
You’re rated Above Target, Target, Below Target, or Needs Improvement across the three domains: People, Process, and Business Environment.
Passing is decided by overall performance against a psychometric standard, not by clearing each domain individually—a Below Target domain doesn’t automatically sink you.
So where’s the passing line?
PMI doesn’t publish one, and it varies with the difficulty of your question set. The folklore numbers you’ll find online (like the old 61%) are outdated.
The working target: consistent 75% or better on reputable full-length simulators. People who train there rarely report bad news.
Results and retakes
- A provisional result appears on screen the moment you finish.
- You get up to three attempts inside your one-year eligibility window; retakes carry a reduced re-exam fee.
- The domain ratings from a failed attempt are your study map for the next one.
